An ad in the Guide section of the Guardian promoted a tour by the band "Fuck Buttons". Text stated "ATP concerts presents FUCK BUTTONS", smaller text beneath listed the tour dates and venues.

Issue

The complainant said the name FUCK BUTTONS was offensive, especially because it was in large print.

Response

AllTomorrowsParties Ltd (ATP) did not respond to the ASA's enquiries.

The Guardian did not respond to the ASA's enquiries.

Assessment

Upheld

The ASA was concerned by ATP's lack of response and apparent disregard for the Code, which was a breach of CAP Code clause 2.6 (Non-response). We reminded them of their responsibility to respond promptly to our enquiries.

We were also concerned that the Guardian did not respond to our enquiries.

We considered that the name FUCK BUTTONS was likely to cause serious offence.

The ad breached CAP Code clauses 2.6 (Non-response) and 5.1 (Decency).

Action

We told ATP not to repeat the ad. We advised them to seek guidance from the CAP Copy Advice team before advertising again.
