Background Information

Misleading Advertising: Dial a Rod Homecover Ltd is in breach of UK Advertising Standards Code for making unsubstantiated efficacy claims about their home cover.

On 9 May 2012 the ASA published an adjudication against Dial a Rod Homecover Ltd t/a Dial a Rod for misleading claims about their heating and boiler cover.  The website www.dialarod.tv  stated “We will be at your premises within one hour of your call to out [sic] 24 hour helpline.  All our work is guaranteed and comes with 100% satisfaction or your money back”.  Furthermore, Dial a Rod also claimed “There is [sic] no other companies that can compete with our prices or level of service”.

On 12 September 2012, the ASA published another adjudication against Dial a Rod Homecover Ltd t/a Dial a Rod regarding another set of misleading claims featured on their website www.dialarod.tv.  The website claimed that the advertisers would "… be at your premises within one hour of your call", that they had a "24 hour helpline", and that any advertised cover included a gas safety check.

Dial a Rod did not respond formally on any of the points of complaint and in the absence of evidence to substantiate them, the ASA considered the claims were misleading.

The Dial a Rod website continues to feature the above claims despite our repeated requests for compliance.

Because of Dial a Rod’s continued non-compliance, we originally took the decision to place its details on the ASA section of the website on 12 June 2012 and updated this entry on 27 September 2012.

These details shall remain in place until such time as Dial a Rod has removed or appropriately amended the claims on its website to ensure compliance with the CAP Code.
