The Compliance team recently took compliance action against an injectable treatment advertisement that claimed “New Non-surgical Fat & Cellulite Reduction”, which implied that the treatment would reduce fat in those areas where the injection was administered.   The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) have since issued an urgent notice to advise that, although it is a licensed medicine for reducing blood fat in some European Member States, Lipostabil is not licensed in the UK.  The MHRA has determined that Lipostabil is a relevant medicinal product and subject to the provision of The Medicines For Human Use (Marketing Authorisations Etc) Regulations 1994 as amended (Statutory Instrument 1994/3144).  In accordance with the Statutory Instrument, no relevant medicinal product should be sold unless a marketing authorisation has been granted for it.
