In February 1995 CAP issued an Ad Alert because of ASA concerns about claims made in a number of advertisements for ultra-sonic pest repellers. The ASA has recently reviewed this subject and is still concerned that the evidence currently available does not conclusively prove the following claims:- that these devices can effectively deter garden and household pests (including rodents mice, cats, dogs and moles).- that a claim can be made for an area of effective coverage.If members are asked to accept advertisements for these devices, they should contact the Copy Advice team.
