Viagra, a drug claimed to relieve male impotence, has recently received a licence in the United States and is available there on prescription. It has not yet been granted a marketing authorisation in the UK. Regulation 3(1) of the Medicines Advertising Regulations 1994 prohibits the appearance of advertisements for relevant medicinal products that do not have marketing authorisation. Members are asked to contact the Copy Advice team before accepting advertisements for Viagra or a similar product purporting to relieve impotence.
