In May, the CAP Copy Advice team issued Ad Alert 131 advising members to contact us before accepting any advertisements for the ‘potency pill’ Viagra. Despite this, a few advertisements have continued to appear and some confusion seems to remain over the acceptability of advertising for this product.

Regulation 3(1) of the Medicines Advertising Regulations 1994 prohibits the appearance of advertisements for relevant medicinal products that do not have marketing authorisation. Members are reminded to contact the Copy Advice team before accepting advertisements offering Viagra for sale, offering advice about it or alluding to it by using expressions such as ‘potency pill’ or ‘impotency drug’.
