Claire Serle
Copy Advice Manager
Claire grew up and was educated in North West London. After working in banking, she travelled extensively through Europe, South East Asia and Australasia before going to Oxford Brookes University, where she got a First in Economics and Business Management. She has also studied in America. She joined the ASA in 1993 as an Investigations Executive and was promoted to Complaints Manager in 1996. She became Investigations Manager and Assistant Secretary to the General Media Panel (GMP) the same year. In 2002 Claire took over as Copy Advice Manager and still serves on the Panel. She brings with her a wealth of experience of interpreting and applying the Code.

Maria Donde
Maria has a degree in Modern Languages from Cambridge University as well as an MA in Literary Translation from Middlesex University, and she is fluent in Russian. She has a background in the media, having worked as a radio journalist for the BBC and press analyst. Her last job involved evaluating national press coverage of the issues surrounding food and childhood obesity, as well as telecoms and corporate social responsibility. She joined the ASA in 2005 and worked initially in the complaints department, assessing public and industry complaints. She has been with the Copy Advice team for over two years now, in which time she has developed a specialism in the advertising of food, with a particular interest in functional food advertising. Her other areas of expertise include data protection, database practice and direct marketing, and she advises extensively on prize draw mailings.

Nick Hudson
With an LLB in Business Law, Nick started his working life in advertising, working in several ad agencies in the account handling department for over 10 years. He joined the ASA in 2006 initially working in Compliance & Monitoring, helping to enforce ASA adjudications and monitoring for problematic ads. He has been with the Copy Advice team at CAP for over a year, in which time he has developed specialisms in the advertising of Health and Beauty products, with a particular interest in advertising for Cosmetics and Skin Creams. His other areas of expertise include advertising claims for medical products and devices, weight management products and complementary & alternative therapies.

Matthew Morgan
Matthew has a BA in History from the LSE. Before joining CAP he worked in the Advertising Standards Authority Complaints team for 18 months. He has been on the Copy Advice team for over a year and specialises in telecoms advertising (including broadband packages), the use of “free” in marketing material, taste & decency issues and alternative therapies.

Robyn Dunwoodie
Robyn has a legal background, having worked as a lawyer in South Africa before relocating to the UK in 2005. Before joining CAP, she worked for the Companies Investigation branch of the DTI (now DBERR) where she was introduced to the ASA through their co-regulatory relationship. In addition to her legal background, Robyn has always had a keen interest in advertising, copywriting and the role of the media and has now been with CAP for 18 months. She specialises in all aspects of gambling and alcohol advertising and is currently carrying out extensive CAP Code training in the alcohol sector. Her other areas of expertise include water treatment devices, spiritualists and psychic ads, and she advises extensively on direct mailings for large retail houses.

James Turner
James Turner has a degree from Cambridge University in Land Economy and an MSc in Building Surveying. After three years as an investigations executive at the ASA, he has put his background in economics, land and environment to good use as the resident “green” specialist on CAP’s Copy Advice team looking at windfarms, carbon offsetting and carbon neutrality. He also specialises in advice on utilities marketing and 0845 NTS numbers.

Rupa Pattni
Rupa graduated in Law and has a background in the media, having worked as a writer and creative for independent television production companies. Before she joined CAP, she worked at the ASA as an Investigations Executive, where she handled a wide variety of cases. She has been with CAP for one year, in which time she has been developing a special interest in travel marketing and advertising to, or featuring, children.
