Two Chairs filled to see through a successful code review

26 February 2008

The review of the CAP and BCAP Codes is a mammoth challenge but we look forward to a successful process, with the talents and experience of two well-regarded figures, one industry and one independent, chairing important groups.   Before his recent appointment as Chairman of the Code Review Working Groups Andrew Marsden had spent ten years at Britvic, the soft drinks company, where he was the Marketing Director. His background in marketing and industry is extensive. He is a former Chairman of the Institute of Sales Promotion and a member of the ISBA Council and he sits on the Governmental Advisory Committee on Advertising. His experience and understanding of advertising and business make him the ideal candidate to steer the Code Review Working Groups. A public consultation of the review will take place towards the end of the year, with the new Codes coming into effect in late 2009.

Elizabeth Filkin has chaired BCAP’s Advertising Advisory Committee (AAC) since it was set up in January 2005.  The Committee’s role is to provide independent, third-party advice to BCAP.  The AAC ensures that the concerns of viewers and listeners are taken into account whenever the BCAP Codes are revised or updated. BCAP must ask the AAC for advice whenever it decides to change the Codes and provide a formal response to the advice given.  Some key subjects on which the AAC has advised BCAP have been changes to the alcohol rules, the new rules for gambling advertisements and the rules for the advertising of food to children on TV and radio.   For more information on the Advertising Advisory Committee, click the link below: http://www.cap.org.uk/cap/Advertising+Advisory+Committee/
