From 13 December, the Food Information Regulations 2014 come into effect replacing the Food Labelling Regulations 1996 (as amended). CAP and BCAP have made minor technical amendments to the UK Advertising Codes to reflect this change.

The regulations primarily cover labelling issues, which fall outside the remit of the Codes. However, as labelling claims can appear in advertising, the ASA relies on the principles of the regulations to assess claims if it receives complaints that fall under their scope.

For advertising-related enquires, please contact the CAP Copy Advice team. For more detailed guidance, practitioners should see the Department of Health website or seek legal advice.
