The Chief Executive of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), Guy Parker, has been elected Chairman of the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA) – the voice of advertising self-regulation for Europe.
Guy was appointed at EASA’s Annual General Meeting in Milan on Friday (19 April). He succeeds Ildiko Fazekas of the Hungarian self-regulatory organisation, Önszabályozó Reklám Testület (ÖRT). Guy will lead EASA for the next two years. His new role will run concurrently with his responsibilities leading the ASA.
Of his appointment, Guy Parker says: “I’m honoured to be elected Chairman of EASA, an organisation that has grown in stature over the last 20 years, supporting and promoting responsible advertising through effective self-regulation across Europe and beyond. I look forward to leading EASA, building on our legacy and tackling regulatory challenges in an increasingly globalized and connected world.”
One of Guy’s first undertakings will be to lead the Board as it begins implementing EASA’s three-year strategy, which include helping its members, particularly smaller self-regulatory organisations, to develop and grow, arguing that advertising self-regulation should have the legal space in which to thrive and developing EASA’s products and services.
Guy joined the ASA in 1992 and became Chief Executive in June 2009, having previously been Deputy Director General, Director of Complaints and Investigations and Secretary of the CAP.
