Advertising Standards Authority Chairman, Lord Smith has announced the appointment of two new Council members, Roisin Donnelly and Alan Bookbinder. The ASA Council is the body responsible for adjudicating on complaints under the UK Advertising Codes.

Roisin Donnelly is the Corporate Marketing Director, Procter & Gamble for the UK and Ireland. She was President of the Marketing Society from 2009 to 2011 and is currently President of WACL (Women in Advertising and Communications London). Roisin will sit as an Industry Member with an advertiser background on both the non-broadcast and broadcast Councils.

Alan Bookbinder is Director, Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts, a management and advisory role in the UK’s largest charitable family foundation. He has previously held senior management positions at the BBC including Head of BBC Religion and Ethics and Chief Advisor, BBC Editorial Policy. Alan will sit on both Councils as a lay member.

Roisin and Alan will take up their positions with immediate effect and replace Elizabeth Fagan and Gareth Jones who have both served their maximum appointed term of six years.

Of the appointments, Lord Smith said: “I am delighted to welcome Roisin and Alan to the ASA. They bring extensive experience in the fields of marketing and ethics respectively. Their insights and knowledge will aid Council immensely in judging the diverse and challenging advertising issues we grapple with on a daily basis on behalf of society”.
