Background

Misleading advertising: Energy Watchdog Ltd breaks the UK Ad Rules for misleadingly implying that it is an official ‘watchdog’, and for implying that it is a regulator or consumer champion for the energy industry.

The ASA also investigated whether Energy Watchdog Ltd’s claims that purchasing its products would result in free hot water could be substantiated, and asked Energy Watchdog Ltd to provide supporting evidence.

Energy Watchdog Ltd did not respond to the ASA’s enquiries.

Following this the matter was referred to the Compliance team; no changes have been made to comply with the CAP Code, and despite repeated requests from the CAP Compliance team to amend its advertising, Energy Watchdog Ltd continues to make misleading claims on its energy-watchdog.com website.

Due to Energy Watchdog Ltd’s continued non-compliance and disregard for the CAP Code, the CAP Compliance team took the decision to place its company details on this section of the ASA website on 25 February 2019. These details shall remain in place until Energy Watchdog Ltd has removed the misleading claims from www.energy-watchdog.com to ensure compliance with the CAP Code.
