ASA Chief Executive appointed as President of ICAS

We are delighted to announce that our Chief Executive, Guy Parker has been elected as the new President of the International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (ICAS) following its Annual General Meeting on 7 May 2021.

Guy will carry out this role alongside his ongoing leadership of the ASA. He will be supported by a renewed and expanded Executive Committee whose priority will be to strengthen and grow ICAS and increase the promotion of effective advertising self-regulatory programs as a way to ensure responsible marketing practices worldwide.

Launched as an independent organization in October 2016, ICAS is a global platform that promotes responsible advertising through effective advertising self-regulation. It brings together a network of Self-Regulatory Organizations (SROs) from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe and North & South America as well as global associations representing the advertising industry (WFA, IAA, EPC, WOO) and experts on global advertising and marketing laws (GALA).

Guy succeeds Lee Peeler, former CEO of the US Advertising Self –Regulatory Council and former Executive Vice-President of BBB National Programs. Lee previously served as the Associate Director for Advertising Practices and as the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection of the United States Federal Trade Commission.

Congratulating Guy Parker on his election, Lee Peeler said:

“As I move on from two really fun and fulfilling years as ICAS President, I want to say how much I have learned from the ICAS members and how much I have enjoyed working with all of them. ICAS has grown from a good idea to playing an increasingly integral role in promoting more and better self-regulation globally. During my career I have always been lucky to leave organizations with better leaders. With Guy Parker on board as the new ICAS President that will be true at ICAS as well.”

ASA Chief Executive, Guy Parker said:

“To quote the wise words of one of the founding fathers of ICAS, (I mean Lee of course), effective advertising self-regulation is “Good people, doing good work, for a good cause”.  I feel very honoured to continue to be a part of that, as ICAS focuses on expanding our network, building even better relationships with digital players, supporting members, being even more active on the policy front and enhancing our visibility further.  All of that in support of the good cause that is: trusted advertising, deserving of our trust.”
