Sign up to our event on racial and ethnic stereotyping in ads

We are currently undertaking a project on racial and ethnic stereotyping in advertising, which closely looks at whether we can do more to prevent potential harms arising from racial and ethnic stereotypes in advertising, which could contribute to real-life inequalities. You can view our blog post, published in December, which outlines our work here

On Wednesday 5th May, we will be hosting an online event to introduce our project to the industry. We want to offer you an opportunity to learn about the background of the work the ASA is undertaking and start a conversation about where the industry go from here. Our guest speaker, Aaqil Ahmed, will share his personal experiences and thoughts on why this topic is so important for us to talk about as advertisers. Aaqil is a published writer, speaker and leader in media, diversity, religion, demographics and culture and is the former Head of Religion and Ethics at both the BBC and Channel 4. You will also be given an opportunity for reflection with a presentation highlighting a range of interesting examples of ads from the past 8 years. We will close the event with a Q&A and an update on next steps for the project.
