Around 70% of the complaints the ASA receives each year relate to misleading advertising, showing how important it is to ensure your campaigns are clear and accurate.
Even carefully planned campaigns can breach the rules if they include exaggerated claims, omit material information, or present details in a way that could confuse consumers. This course will help you recognise those risks and give you the practical tools to create advertising that consumers can understand and rely on, while meeting the requirements of the UK Advertising Codes.
You’ll also receive access to our eLearning module, An Insiders’ Guide to the ASA and CAP, ahead of the session, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the ASA and CAP system, and get the most from your training.
What will be covered?
During this session, you’ll learn:
- The key factors the ASA considers when assessing ads, and how consumers are likely to interpret claims.
- How to distinguish between puffery and objective claims that require evidence.
- How to substantiate claims effectively and when to include material information.
- How to make qualifications and disclaimers clear, prominent, and easy to understand.
- How to avoid exaggeration and how to present prices, fees, and costs transparently.
- How to use terms like “free” and “free trial” in line with the Advertising Codes.
- How to make accurate price and savings claims, including “up to” and “from” offers.
- How to make fair and compliant comparisons with competitors’ advertising.

How much does it cost?
When paying online, the cost per delegate is £180 (£150.00 +VAT); we accept all major credit and debit cards.
When paying by invoice, the cost per delegate is £210 (£175.00 +VAT); the additional charge is to cover administrative tasks.
