Overview
Dates: 07 April, 16 April, 21 April, and 30 April 2026
Live on Zoom | 6 CPD hours
Whether you’re running social media campaigns, managing promotions, or overseeing broader marketing activity, staying on top of the UK Advertising Codes is essential. This virtual training gives you practical, hands-on guidance to help you create compliant, effective campaigns every day.
This April, we’re bringing back one of our most popular courses, the Advice:Weekly. Across four engaging online sessions, you’ll learn how the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) work, and how to apply their rules to your campaigns with confidence.
You’ll get clear guidance on common compliance risks, including misleading advertising, promotional marketing, and social media rules, plus practical tips to spot and fix issues before they trigger complaints. Real-life examples and expert insights will help you make faster, smarter decisions in your day-to-day work.
The course is delivered live on Zoom and includes all training materials; plus session recordings you can access for up to three months after the event. Completing the course also gives you 6 CPD hours.
What will be covered?
Week 1: Introduction to Ad Regulation | Tuesday 07 April 2026, 10.00 am – 11.00 am
Learn how CAP writes and maintains the Advertising Codes and how the ASA applies them in practice. Hear about the ASA Council and when the ASA will use experts. Find out what falls inside and outside the ASA remit and the sanctions that can be applied when an advertiser breaks the rules.
Week 2: Misleading Advertising | Thursday 16 April 2026, 10.30 am – 12.00 pm
The most common complaint the ASA receives is that an ad is misleading. Ads can mislead by exaggeration, omission, or by being unclear, unintelligible, or ambiguous. This session covers the common ways advertisers can inadvertently get it wrong and how to ensure consumers aren’t misled.
Week 3: Promotions, Competitions, Discounts | Tuesday 21 April 2026, 10.00 am – 11.30 am
Competitions, prize draws, “free” items, and discounts all fall under ‘promotional marketing’. They can attract new customers or reward loyalty, but it’s important they are run fairly and compliantly. Learn the key rules, including what counts as a ‘significant condition’.
Week 4: Digital Advertising & Social Media | Thursday 30 April 2026, 10.30 am – 12.00 pm
Digital advertising is a key part of today’s marketing campaigns, but 84% of ads amended or withdrawn in 2024 were non-paid online ads—mostly on companies’ own websites and social media accounts. This session will provide practical guidance on applying the advertising rules online, including paid searches, social media, marketing emails, company websites, and other non-paid spaces under your control, helping you create campaigns that are both compliant and effective.
During these sessions, we’ll use real-life case studies and ASA rulings to illustrate the rules. You’ll al
