Today, we’re publishing two Enforcement Reports examining misleading health-related ads. One focuses on food supplement ads claiming to prevent, treat or cure traits associated with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and the other looks at the irresponsible advertising of prostate supplements and Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) home testing kits.
Our report on ADHD/autism supplements found that targeted enforcement action on Meta and Google has significantly reduced the volume of harmful advertising. However, compliance remains low, highlighting the need for continued monitoring, further enforcement and collaboration with platforms to protect vulnerable audiences.
The report on prostate supplements and PSA home testing kits also found mixed results. While the volume of prostate supplement ads decreased significantly, compliance remained extremely low. By contrast, compliance among PSA home testing kit advertisers improved following targeted action.
We’ll continue monitoring both sectors and will take further action where necessary to address misleading health claims and protect consumers.
