Background

Misleading Advertising: Gary Baron breaks the UK advertising rules for misleadingly claiming that he is a member of the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) on the www.gbcounselling.co.uk/about-me webpage.

The ASA investigated a complaint from the BACP that challenged the claim that Gary Baron was a member of the BACP. Gary Baron did not respond to the ASA’s enquiries. The CAP Code prohibits advertisers from claiming that a marketer is approved, endorsed or authorised by a professional body if it is not. On this basis the ASA ruled that the claim was misleading.

The CAP Compliance team contacted Gary Baron and, in the absence of a response, took the decision on 18 August 2026 to place his details on this section of the ASA website. These details remain in place until such time as Gary Baron has removed or appropriately amended the claim on the www.gbcounselling.co.uk website to ensure compliance with the CAP Code.
