Background

Misleading Advertising: The Detox Clinic Ltd t/a thedetoxclinicltd.com breaks UK advertising rules for making misleading efficacy claims for IV Ozone Therapy.

The ASA has investigated this company’s advertising of IV Ozone Therapy and ruled that The Detox Clinic Ltd must not make health-related claims about the therapies they offered unless they held a substantive body of evidence to support those claims, including clinical trials conducted on people.

IV Ozone Therapy is a form of oxygen therapy. Efficacy claims on thedetoxclinicltd.com include references to "treatments for digestive issues, sleep issues, sugar cravings, skin issues and claims that IV Ozone Therapy: “may ease your symptoms: may strengthen immune system; may prevent infection; may destroy fungi, bacteria and virus”. These claims are yet to be substantiated with robust clinical evidence.

In order to comply with the Code, The Detox Clinic Ltd would need to redraft all websites under their control and any other marketing material, ensuring that any health-related claims about IV Ozone Therapy are removed.

Despite requests from the CAP Compliance team to remove or amend the health-related claims, The Detox Clinic Ltd continues to feature them on thedetoxclinicltd.com.

Because of The Detox Clinic Ltd’s continued non-compliance, we took the decision on 31 March 2022 to place their company details on this section of the ASA website. These details shall remain in place until such time as The Detox Clinic Ltd has removed or appropriately amended the health-related claims on thedetoxclinicltd.com to ensure compliance with the CAP Code.
