In October 2019, we informed the Gambling Commission on our work to respond to GambleAware’s Interim Synthesis Report on the impact of gambling advertising on children and young people and other vulnerable groups. The research is a significant development in trying to develop a UK-specific picture  to inform regulation and ensure the UK Advertising Codes remain effective in tackling irresponsible gambling advertising.

We’re now publishing a further letter updating the Commission on our progress including compliance and monitoring work in response to findings related to gambling-related social media posts and improving our guidance on how advertisers using online targeting should take steps to ensure under-18s don’t receive gambling ads.

The GambleAware research is still ongoing with a final report expected in the coming months. We will continue to work with the Commission in 2020 to respond appropriately and effectively to the emerging findings on advertising contributing to wider efforts to address gambling-related harms in the UK.
