The TPS helps individuals to make sure their telephone numbers are no longer available to organisations who may telephone with offers and information they do not wish to receive.

Both landline and mobile telephone numbers may be registered with the TPS - this will prevent receipt of marketing voice calls, but not text (SMS) messages.

Organisations that are lawfully required to not make calls to individuals registered with the TPS include:

  • Private and public companies
  • Charities
  • Voluntary organisations
  • Political parties
Certain businesses, such as limited companies, can register with a separate organisation if they do not wish to receive similar types of calls: The Corporate Telephone Preference Service.
