The IPA is the industry body and professional institute of UK advertising agencies and acts as spokesman for its members in matters such as representing them on issues of common concern, as well as speaking on their behalf in negotiations with media bodies, government departments and Unions and media owners.

The IPA’s core aims include promoting their members’ interests, promoting the advertising sector as a force for good in society, and driving growth in the broader context of the economy.

The IPA is a member of both the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP).
