Background

Misleading Advertising: Battlestate Games Ltd trading as escapefromtarkov.com breaks UK advertising rules for quoting VAT-exclusive prices to consumers.

The CAP Code states “Quoted prices must include non-optional taxes, duties, fees and charges that apply to all or most buyers”. The pricing for products on escapefromtarkov.com, a gaming website, shows prices exclusive of VAT. VAT is subsequently added once the consumer reaches checkout.

In order to comply with the Code, escapefromtarkov.com would need to quote their prices inclusive of VAT.

The CAP Compliance team contacted Battlestate Games Ltd but, in the absence of an assurance to amend escapefromtarkov.com, took the decision on 20 February 2025 to place their company details on this section of the ASA website.

Due to Battlestate Games Ltd's continued non-compliance and disregard for the CAP Code, the CAP Compliance team took the decision to reissue its company details on this section of the ASA website on 4 February 2026.

These details shall remain in place until such time as Battlestate Games Ltd removes or appropriately amends the VAT-exclusive prices on the escapefromtarkov.com website to comply with the CAP Code.
