The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is an independent, non-governmental body that is responsible for classifying cinema films, videos and DVDs. 

Services offered and responsibilities of the BBFC include:
 

  • Protecting the public, especially children and the vulnerable from content which could be harmful
  • Responding to and reflecting changing social attitudes towards media through proactive research and public consultation 
  • Working with industry to provide advice and guidance
