Ad description

A paid-for YouTube ad for Aurai AI, an AI role play app, seen on 15 November 2025, showed an animated bottle character positioned on top of an animated juice carton character, who appeared to struggle to push the bottle character off. The bottle character said, “Come on. Maka, this is some nice level of shit. You ain’t fuckin’ like that?”. On-screen text stated, “Pov: When Aurai girl’s done and thinks I’m finished but I’m only getting started”. Smaller text stated, “No judgement, no pressure – just a friend who gets you” and further stated, “Aurai-AI Friend, Roleplay…Chat and Create AI Character”.

Issue

The complainant, who believed the ad depicted a sexual assault, and also objected that it contained swearing, challenged whether the ad was offensive and irresponsible.

Response

Haikou Chengfa Technology Co Ltd did not respond to the ASA’s enquiries.

Google stated that the ad was in breach of their policies and they had taken steps to remove it.

Assessment

Upheld

The ASA was concerned by Haikou Chengfa Technology Co Ltd’s lack of response and apparent disregard for the Code, which was a breach of CAP Code (Edition 12) rule 1.7 (Unreasonable delay). We reminded them of their responsibility to respond promptly to our enquiries and told them to do so in future.

The CAP Code requires that marketing communications must not contain anything that is likely to cause serious or widespread offence, or anything that is likely to condone or encourage violence or anti-social behaviour.

The ad depicted a short scene from a film, which showed an animation of a bottle character positioned on top of a juice carton character, who appeared to struggle to push the bottle character off. The bottle character was shown to be holding the juice carton character’s legs, biting and sucking the juice from between its legs whilst stating, “Maka, this is some nice level of shit. You ain’t fuckin’ like that?”. The ASA considered that while the animated scene was taken from a film, it was presented out of context and was likely to be understood in the context in which it now appeared. In combination with the wider ad messaging, including references to the Aurai-AI Character being a “girl” and a “roleplay” partner, and the further claims of “no judgement” and “when [she’s] done and thinks I’m finished but I’m only getting started”, we considered that regardless of whether they knew the origin of the film clip, consumers were likely to interpret the scene as one of acting out sexual desire despite the other party being unwilling. We therefore considered the ad condoned sexual violence.

The ad also included swearing in the phrases “Maka, this is some nice level of shit” and “You ain’t fuckin’ like that?”, which we considered was likely to cause serious and widespread offence to a general audience. We considered the swearing also heightened the aggressive tone of the scene and amplified the impression of sexual violence.

In addition to causing serious and widespread offence, because the ad condoned sexually violent behaviour, we also concluded that it was irresponsible.

The ad breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 1.3 (Social responsibility), and 4.1 and 4.4 (Harm and offence).

Action

The ad must not appear again in the form complained about. We told Haikou Chengfa Technology Co Ltd to ensure that future ads were prepared responsibly and did not cause serious or widespread offence, including by avoiding expletives and content that condoned sexually violent behaviour. We referred the matter to CAP’s Compliance team.
